Visual Narratives - Studio Brief 1 : The Visual Journalist - Find A Seat

Upon brainstorming ideas of places where I could sit for an hour and observe people I thought it would be interesting to base my ideas around coffee shops and restaurants because they have busy times and quiet periods whereby different age groups, classes and cultures would visit depending on the time of day. I work at TGI Fridays and thought it would be interesting to visit earlier than my start time - usually I start around 6-7 oclock when the place is packed out. I went on a lunch time to see the difference in people that dine at that time; then throughout the night and at the end of the night when everyone had left just observing the staff.
I used this as two of my 'find a seat' places because the difference in people was vast. For the last place I went to Costa coffee shop to see the difference in people that visit there - business folk compared to families in TGI's.

RESEARCH & CRITICAL AWARENESS

I found it funny that when people know you're taking a photo - they cant help but pose!

Sketches on the go - I found it more comfortable to sit and draw people rather than take photos as I felt they would catch on to what I was doing

Ideas that stemmed from this
