Looking at Dicaprio merchandise that's out there at the minute the majority of it is quite corny
And the cards are really badly crafted despite being quite funny
Dicapricards
As I still want to tackle cards and become an expert in them I decided to narrow it down to something that is current. Leonardo Dicaprio has been in the news a lot recently with his recent oscar win and so I decided to show him celebrating other occasions.
From this illustration I decided I could make a greetings card out of it by adding a party hat and balloon
The caption is based on his Oscar acceptance speech whereby he talks about climate change and how we should not take the earth for granted, and he does not take the Oscars for granted. Thought it would be a nice twist and keeps it current.
I have contacted Brainbox Candy with the design to see if they like it.
I think I will submit this to Threadless too because they also do Cards
Further Development
For this slogan I looked at famous Leo film quotes and there's one from Django Unchained where he says 'gentleman, you had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.' So I gave it a little birthday spin.
They could even be personalised as limited edition cards
I submitted these to threadless too by adding the message inside of the card
Just type cards
I wanted to pick apart the design by thinking of all possible outcomes and for this I would like to look at how my typography style could work on its own.
Paperchase do a section for this called 'just words' I could have something similar on Bow Down's site
What's eating gilbert grape Birthday card :
Text split between front page & inverse

Great gatsby Valentines :
Great Gatsby
Shutter island
Wolf of Wall street
Submitting to Threadless
I'm not sure this design works with the typography on both pages, especially in the same style and size. I need to rethink this
