Experimenting with format and composition. 'Money is power'
Folding and cutting paper allowed us to experiment with portrait and landscape frames for which our illustration is displayed. I learnt that it is important to not let the framework of a piece restrict your illustration but rather support it and allow for a new way of thinking. We had to display our idea in the most simplistic form, using only what was necessary and thinking of an interesting composition rather than just central. This was quite difficult to get to grips with at first but after a few drawings I got the hang of it and understood how it improves your illustration by using the framework to your advantage.
Scaling ratio and format notes to consider.
I learnt that despite been given a certain format you can upscale or downscale your framework and it will still be the same format.
Brainstorming ideas based quotes within the article
Smoking Art - Cigar as a paintbrush
Art as a rich hobby - Polo paintbrush
A rich man's game - Chess board palette
Art Luxury - drinking paint/wine
Polo Paintbrush - adding colour. Used red and blue to represent london. Encorporated the british flag into the last one which I think looks best. i think this piece will be my portrait piece.
Experimenting to see how my cigar paintbrush piece would look landscape then adding a bit of colour
I think this is my favourite cigar paintbrush piece because I wasnt sure if the other one would be recognisable as a cigar so adding the mouth smoking it makes it more obvious
