Summer Brief 9

My Holiday
Over my summer holiday I visited New York and decided to base the concept of my project on things that I discovered whilst I was there. The majority of my outcomes were based on this; but a few included things from home such as my family.
I created a sketchbook with photographs from my holiday as well as acetate drawings of these. Usually my technique would include scanning in an acetate drawing and painting it digitally on Adobe Illustrator but I have just got the hang of using the Mac computers within the university! If I had more time I would definitely colour these pieces as I think they would look really nice and may do this if I have any spare time in the future.
I quite like using acetate to pick out details from a photograph that I would like to use because had I of done this freehand I feel I would include far too much detail and spoil it. I have a tendancy to try and draw things quite realistic so this technique allows for me to simplify down to one line drawings.
I often try to use wrong hand also to free my lines.

Feedback
I recieved some really nice feedback on my work, and some creative criticism also to advise me on how to improve; here are a few examples:

" Love the realistic yet sketchiness to your drawings "
" Great line work "
" Really like how you used perspective eg makes St Lukes Roosevelt interesting "
"Simple yet really beautiful. I especially like the Radio City one. To improve I would of liked to see you trying a little colour in some areas, maybe watercolour? I think the landscapes work better than the people for this approach "
" Great control over the lines, crisp and clean "
" Good drawings and they all work together as a set really well "
" Your lines are really nice but I think you need to rely less on photographs and more on drawing freehand "

All fair comments and much appreciated feedback pushing me to experiment further with colour in projects to come!
