Studio Brief 6 : Doodle for Google - further development

Will & Kate

Final design

Used original google text but coloured it in 'royal' colours with the colour palette used in the design.

Mocked up on Google homepage

I think this works really well, probably the best compositionally out of all of the designs I've made because its so clean and bold and I like the fact they are kissing in it it draws your eyes to them and away from the text.

Roald Dahl's 100th Birthday

I adore the Roald Dahl books so I was happy to play around with this one. I think it is important to take on briefs that you know something about or you are interested in because it shows through your work.
I didn't want this to be a mimic of Quentin Blake, I still want to maintain my style.

I looked at a lot of Roald Dahl imagery and stepping away from Quentin Blake I wanted to illustrate Roald Dahl himself rather than the stories.
I thought it would be nice to show how Roald Dahl would still be working hard and writing despite it being his birthday.
In order to do this I took an image of him writing at home in a chair. I then decided to fill the room with birthday decorations.

Development

The balloons aren't quite working I can't seem to get balloon colours, they look too bold against the realistic colours.

Mocked up on Google Homepage

I'm not too sure about this one. I think there is something quite charming about it and I was happy to draw out a scene rather than simply illustrating the person. It works well as an image but I am not sure if it will work well for Google.
It was also a struggle to incorporate the Google text.
I couldn't fathom how to include it in the room, I tried it out on balloons around him but it looked silly and all over the place.
I decided to show him writing out Google on his writing pad. This was a struggle though. If I did this again I would consider the text from the beginning and work the image around that rather than leaving it until last minute.
